Imagination gets actresses through lesbian love scenes
Imagination. That's what Mylene Dizon and Andrea del Rosario banked on to get through the lesbian love scene in Rome and Juliet, a modern-day reworking of one of Shakespeare's most adapted plays, Romeo and Juliet. In the digital film, which premiered on Nov. 24 at Robinsons Galleria Cinema 8, Dizon plays Rome, a florist, and wedding planner who's preparing the wedding of Juliet Flores, played by Del Rosario, and Councilor Marc Villaluna, played by Rafael Rosell. Along the way, Rome and Juliet fall for each other, and the deep affection they feel for each other leads them to a physical encounter in the shower. In an interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal (www.pep.ph) after the premiere, Del Rosario, a former Viva Hot Babe, related how she managed to do the scene: "We just tried to bond, me and Mylene. Then I pretended like I'm kissing another man." Dizon did the same thing, saying: "Whenever I would look at Andrea, kailangan tingin ko sa kanya lalaki. Nag-i-imagine ako kung sino ang crush ko, sino yung type ko at the moment. Ini-imagine ko si Andrea yun (Whenever I would look at Andrea, I need to look at her as though she were a man. I imagined she was a man who was my crush at the moment.)" The ploy paid off, with Dizon getting the Best Actress award at the Cinema One Originals film fest at Teatrino in Greenhills, San Juan, on Nov. 26. Rome and Juliet was one of the seven digital film entries for the 2006 Cinema One Originals, a contest after the cable channel after which it was named.
