Dolphy's greatest movie hits (in our humble opinion)
Currently in critical condition after a lingering illness, Dolphy is arguably the Philippines' greatest show business figure and taught several generations of movie goers to giggle at themselves. He tapped into a Filipino brand of humor where he used facial expression and body language even more than words to get dark theaters and cramped living rooms to erupt in laughter.
But perhaps even more significantly, he helped humanize the poor (the John en Marsha series of films and long-running TV show) and gays (Ang Tatay Kong Nanay, directed by Lino Brocka, 1978). He also famously sired at least 17 children with six women, including his current long-time partner Zsa Zsa Padilla.
The video excerpts below are from Dolphy's greatest hits (in our humble opinion) from each decade beginning in the 1950s, giving viewers a sense of how the comedy king has evolved. 1950s - Sa Isang Sulyap Mo Tita (1953)
1960s - Falcifica Falayfay (1969) 1970s - John en Marsha (1975) 1980s - Haw Haw de Karabaw (1988) 1990s - Da Best in da West 2 (1997) 2000s - Markova: Comfort Gay (2000) 2010s - Father Jejemon (2010) —Marc Cayabyab/HS/PF, GMA News More Videos
