Maricel Soriano, Gina Pareño best actress both
Veteran actresses Maricel Soriano and Gina Pareño tied for best actress in Saturdayâs Golden Screen Awards. Soriano won in the movie Inang Yaya, while Pareño prevailed in the film Kubrador The Entertainment Press Society, Inc. (Enpress) held its 4th Golden Screen Awards at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City last night, March 17. Enpress broke tradition by having a luau theme awards night, complete with tiki lamps and an island-inspired set. The stars strutted in their best summer outfits, looking more relaxed than in their usual formal gowns and suits. Presenter Donita Rose, who presented wuth Alfred Vargas, caused quite a stir when she announced the winner for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role-Drama. The jurors were quick to call her attention that there were two names in the envelopeâGina Pareño for Kubrador and Maricel Soriano for Inang Yaya. Donita apologized for her mistake. Happing-happy ako!" exclaimed Gina whie accepting her trophy with Maricel. She turned to Maricel and said, "Ako, hindi ako plastic. Thank you so much!" The two actresses confessed that they didn't expect to win. "Alam ko talaga si Tita Gina ang mananalo, e. Siyempre, masayang-masaya po kami," said the Diamond Star. "Kagaya ng sinabi ni Tita Gina, sa lahat ng kapwa naming nominado, nagpapasalamat po kami at sa lahat ng laging nandiyan, mga fans, mga kaibigang tumatangkilik ng pelikulang Pilipino, maraming salamat po sa inyo." Gina quipped, "Impress na impress ako sa Enpress!" Meanwhile, Judy Ann Santos, one of the night's hosts, was brought to tears when her name was called out for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role-Musical or Comedy. Judai dedicated her award to her "lucky charm." "Of course kay Ryan... I guess tama âyong sinabi ko na he's really my lucky charm, aside from the fact na producers are giving me the right projects as well. I'm just so lucky to have a good career and to have a great boyfriend beside me, so masayang-masaya talaga ako," remarked Judai. Judai's boyfriend and Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo co-star Ryan Agoncillo was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role-Musical or Comedy, but lost to Piolo Pascual, Judy Ann's leading man in Don't Give Up On Us. "Ryan is our Best Actor," said Judai teasingly to her and Ryan's fans. Piolo was not able to attend the awards night, just like Best Actor in Drama winner Alchris Galura, who won for his performance in Batad: Sa Paang Palay. Alchris is the brother of young actress Glaiza de Castro. MLR Films' Kubrador was the night's biggest winner, taking home a total of six awards.
