Avril Lavigne performs with husband Chad Kroeger during her Manila concert

Filipino fans of Avril Lavigne welcomed back the pop rock singer as she performed live in the Philippines for the fourth time.

Organized by Midas Productions, the Manila concert is the 5th stop in the Asian leg of the Canadian singer’s Avril Lavigne On Tour. Her Asian tour began in Osaka, Japan last January 31 and her last stop will be in Taipei, Taiwan on March 16.

Concertgoers at the Smart Araneta Coliseum screamed as Avril emerged on stage wearing a Hello Kitty-inspired black and pink outfit for her opening song, “Hello Kitty.”

The singer followed this up with her  2007 single “Girlfriend.” Mid-way through her second song, Avril greeted her fans and screamed, “Manila!”

She continued, “Everybody put your hands up! Are you guys ready to have fun tonight?”
The venue was packed with fans carrying pink lightsticks. Her hardcore fans even brought a banner saying: “We Love You, B**ch!”

Avril continued performing her upbeat tracks such as “Rock ‘N Roll,” “Here’s to Never Growing Up,” and “I Always Get What I Want.”

Obviously enjoying the Manila crowd, Avril told her fans: “You guys are way too much fun! Thank you all for being here tonight!”

The 29-year-old performer moved on to her more sentimental tracks and toned it down a bit by performing “Hush, Hush” from her self-titled album.

Avril then treated the crowd to her latest single “Let Me Go.” Before the performance, Avril told the audience, “This song is very special to me. It’s the song I wrote with Chad Kroeger.”

Loud cheers roared inside the Big Dome when her husband, Chad Kroeger, appeared on stage to perform their duet just before the chorus started. Her fans were left in awe as the singer displayed her vocal prowess towards the end of the song.

Avril then continued with performances of her older hits—“My Happy Ending,” “Don’t Tell Me,” and “ Complicated”—which had fans singing along.

To show gratitude for her Pinoy fans, Avril screamed “I love you, Manila!” and “Thank you, Manila!” several times throughout the concert.

The singer was just ecstatic to see her fans again and said, “We are so happy to be here tonight. Thank you for being here with us.”

At one point, the singer-songwriter gave instructions for her fans to shout when she raised her hand. Her Filipino fans did not disappoint as they gave their loudest screams to show support for their favorite punk-pop singer.

Red lights dominated the stage as American rockstar Marilyn Manson's photo was displayed on the LED screen. At this point, Avril performed her punk-rock track “Bad Girl.”

Avril’s repertoire also included performances of her greatest hits “He Wasn’t,” and “Losing Grip.”

The last song for her setlist was the upbeat track “Sk8ter Boi.” Fans let loose with fist-pumping action while others jumped tirelessly while singing the part of the song that goes “Hey, hey! You, You…”

The lights dimmed as Avril prepared for her encore set and as expected, her fans chanted “More! More!” and “Avril! Avril!” Within minutes, her band appeared on stage and screams filled up the Big Dome when fans saw Avril coming out again on stage.

For her encore set, Avril performed “What The Hell” and “Smile” before ending the night with “I’m With You.”

Avril prompted concertgoers to sing the last chorus of her song “I’m With You.”

Her Filipino fans obliged by singing the lyrics: "It's a damn cold night / trying to figure out this life / Won't you take me by the hand / take me somewhere new / I don't know who you are but I..."

“I’m With You” is Avril's award-winning and chart-topping hit from her 2002 album Let Go.
