Contrary to perhaps a perceived hiatus from showbiz, Antoinette, in fact, did not leave the limelight at all. She just sought a brighter one in Hollywood, where she tried to penetrate the entertainment and performing industry.
Success was not elusive for the talented beauty, as she eventually caught up with the dreams that she has been chasing. While more popular in the Philippines as an actress, being part of the youth-oriented show TGIS and original rendition of Anna Karenina, it was her singing career that flourished in the West.
Since 2004, she has been performing in various stages of Los Angeles. At one point, she even joined an acoustic singing contest that aired over one of US' major television networks.
After being away for almost a decade, Antoinette returns to the Philippine showbiz scene. What was supposed to be a short vacation became an extended stay, as Antoinette hinted of some projects that she will be doing while in the country.
"Exciting and happy to be back. Excited to see how life is gonna be different and how probably it’s gonna be the same as before. So just looking forward to working with my friends here and seeing everyone again," shared Antoinette during the taping of Mars, where she guested with brother Tom Taus.
She admitted that she missed the show business that she left during the prime of her career.
"I miss being super busy. I actually enjoyed working so much kasi I love what I do. I love being on set. I love singing, acting. I guess I miss the excitement and the adrenaline rush of all the work here," the bubbly actress expressed.
In terms of anticipated projects, Antoinette said that it's not so much the quantity of the offers but the quality. "Honestly, nothing specific (na project) pero I really want to be able to choose my projects. Ayoko lang gumawa ng kahit anong soap, kahit ano lang na movie."
Aside from being able to act again, she said that one of the things she is looking forward to is giving her own inputs with regards to these projects.
"I learned a lot from the States, from the entertainment industry there. And I love the Filipino entertainment industry. Parang naiintindihan ko 'yung gusto ng mga tao, kung anong gustong mapanood ng mga Pilipino. So hopefully ma-incorporate namin 'yun sa kung anumang projects na gagawin namin," she said excitedly.
An indie film is already in the pipeline for Antoinette, and while hesitant to give information preemptively, she simply shared, "I’m really looking forward to that kasi slated for international release 'yon."
Her first love - singing - won't be left behind. "Of course, an album... Na talagang I really want to take control of the music. Gusto kong pumili ng producers and writers, pati 'yung songs. I might co-write a lot of songs as well. Really excited, about the album."
She added, "It’s gonna be commercial pop, meron konting slight RnB, soul factor, pero more on pop talaga. We’ll have both English and Tagalog songs. I wanna make the most out of the Filipino talent din. I really want to try something different for the entertainment industry here that I also learned over there. And hopefully, invite people that I met there to come here and get involved with the projects as well. Best of both worlds."
When asked if she'd be willing to work with her ex-boyfriend Dingdong Dantes, Antoinette replied, "Sure, why not! I’m open to that, of course."
"We’ve been friends na for a long time. Past is past. Kahit ano’ng mangyari, I’m happy for them and it would be great to work with either of them or both of them," referring to Dingdong and his current girlfriend, Marian Rivera.
Will we be seeing more of Antoinette on the Kapuso network? Always tune in to GMA to find out. Meanwhile, don't miss her guesting on Mars later today at 7 in the evening on GMA News TV. She and brother Tom Taus will be have a catch-up chat with Mars Camille Prats and Suzi Entrata-Abrera. -- CJ Mendoza, GMA Social Media Specialist
