The final showdown in Bakekang

Theirs is no simple sibling rivalry. Karisma and Kristal face-off on the concert stage to prove who the real star is as the teledrama ‘Bakekang’ comes to a close. But off-cam, the two young stars that portray them have found a friendship that’s expected to remain strong long after the audience’s last applause for their performance in the top-rating primetime series. It is the much awaited showdown between two estranged sisters. Both talented and beautiful, they want nothing more than to outdo each other. Many events have led to this moment of reckoning. But in the end, there’s only room for one star. Earlier this week, Kristal revealed to a shocked audience that Karisma, the newest singing sensation, is actually her sister, Charming. Despite also possessing a powerful and sweet voice, Charming was turned down by record producers due to her less than appealing appearance. But that was the past. Now, Charming is the gorgeous Karisma. With the help of mentor Valeria, Charming transformed herself to emerge as the hottest recording star since her younger sister released an album some years before. But it seems that Kristal is not yet ready to give up her throne as the sole celebrity in the family. Her love for her mother, Bakekang, is also a significant motivator in her decision to challenge Karisma on stage. The showdown could well also be between Bakekang and Valeria, two formidable women who have clashed against each other on many fronts. As Karisma is backed up by Valeria and Kristal is supported by Bakekang, this may be considered the final round in the war between the two mothers. Many intrigues surround this real life drama but soon all will be revealed on the stage. And as the tension between Karisma and Kristal builds up in the final week of Bakekang, the stars of the show realize that their time together also draws to a close. The two young stars only have the best to say about each other and immediately deny reports of a supposed rivalry between them. Yasmien clarifies, “Oh my god no! sobrang hindi, sobrang opposite ‘yun. ‘Yung mga nakikita ninyo sa TV na nag- aaway kami ni Kristal, sobrang opposite ‘yun!" stars Lovi even stresses that they’ve become really good friends. “’Yung Charming and Kristal bonding, ganoon na talaga ‘yung bonding namin ni Yas in real life." This is the teary eyed sentiment of Lovi Poe when asked about her friendship with co-star Yasmien Kurdi. She, of course, was referring to the earlier part of the series when their characters still lived under one roof. Both undeniably share a love for music and have even released successful albums. And, just like any teenager, both love to giggle and play around when the cameras are off. Another thing which they share in common is a deep affection and respect for Sunshine Dizon, who plays their mother in the primetime drama.stars“Ang dami kong natutunan… Ang nakuha ko kay Ate Shine, you don’t have to prove na you are the best actress all the time. You improve in every role, in every scene. It’s a learning process kapag sinabi mo na magaling ka na, wala, hanggang doon ka na lang so you learn everytime," Lovi says. “Si Ate Shine hindi siya nagho-hold ng emotions sa mga eksena kasi we need it dahil drama kami eh. Kapag nagho-hold kami ng mga emotions namin ‘yung parang feel ng people is kulang-kulang so you should let go, just let go," Yasmien adds. The two are proud to say that they have grown as actresses and as individuals because of the show, because of their co-stars and because of each other.
