(UPDATED 5:06 p.m.) A Taguig court has granted the petition for bail of model Deniece Cornejo and two others on charges of serious illegal detention over the alleged mauling of TV host and actor Vhong Navarro last January.
Lawyer Connie Aquino said the Taguig Regional Trial Court granted the petition of Cornejo, Cedric Lee and Zimmer Raz, according to Saleema Refran of GMA News.
An Instagram photo of the court order as posted by GMA News' Mariz Umali showed the court set a bail of P500,000 each for the three.
It said the three are "in such considerable financial condition as to afford a battery of well-known lawyers," adding their "previous attempt to elude the law was also well-publicized."
Refran quoted Aquino as saying they are "thankful" and "welcome" the "positive development in the case."
Aquino added that this is a "big step in proving what we have been reiterating from the inception of the case which is the truth that our clients are innocent of the charges against them."
A separate report by radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen said Cornejo's grandmother Florencia Cornejo went to the Taguig Hall of Justice supposedly to wait for a copy of the resolution.
Lee, Raz and Cornejo were implicated in the mauling of Navarro earlier this year. — Joel Locsin/JST, GMA News
