LEGO Batman to get spinoff movie, due 2017
Remember LEGO Batman, the sarcastic mini-figure from The LEGO Movie? You better, because he's coming back – in his own spinoff movie.
A report by The Hollywood Reporter said the spinoff movie is even being rushed, at the expense of The LEGO Movie's would-be sequel.
"Batman was one of the highlights of The Lego Movie, stealing every scene he was in," it said.
THR said The LEGO Movie's animation supervisor Chris McKay, who was to direct the sequel, has been tapped to head the LEGO Batman movie.
McKay is to team up with author-screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith on the project, it added.
"Will Arnett will reprise the voice of the Caped Crusader. Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the custodians of the Lego screen brand, are producing," THR said.
But the movie is still a long time coming, expected to hit theaters in 2017. It is expected to come after Ninjago in 2016.
Even before his upcoming spinoff movie, LEGO Batman already starred in at least three video games and a straight-to-video LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
