Cherry Pie named best actress in S. Africa fest

Cherry Pie Picache was named Best Actress for the movie Kaleldo (international title: Summer Heat) in a film festival that took place in South Africa last weekend. The awards night for the 28th Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) took place at NuMetro Cinecentre at Suncoast last Saturday, June 30. A total of 18 prizes—Best Feature Film, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best First Feature Film—were given out that night. The winners were given traditional Zulu dolls as awards. Cherry Pie played the role of a lesbian named Jess in the family drama produced and directed by Brillante Mendoza for Centerstage Productions. The DIFF, which took place from June 20 to July 1, had 23 feature films competing for the main prizes awarded by an international jury.
