GMA Pinoy TV’s “Home Away from Home” is lone Philippine nominee at 2016 NAMIC Vision Awards

GMA’s flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV is the only channel with all-Filipino programming nominated at the US-based 22nd National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) Vision Awards, as its multi-awarded original documentary series “Home Away from Home” earns a nod in the Lifestyle category.

NAMIC is the premier organization that focuses on multi-ethnic diversity in the US communications industry since 1980. Launched in 1994, the annual NAMIC Vision Awards recognizes exceptional programming content which reflects the ethnic and cultural diversity of its target audience.

Created in 2014, “Home Away from Home” is hosted by Luane Dy, and serves as a window into the lives of noteworthy Filipinos living abroad. As viewers are welcomed into their homes, these accomplished individuals also share the secrets to their successful family and professional lives with the hope of inspiring Filipino viewers around the world.

Its second season featured Joseph Battad, President of the Philippine American Association of Connecticut (PAAC), one of the first community-based cultural organizations in America.

The show revealed the strong cultural and community ties cultivated by Battad, his wife Tess and co-member Debbie Magno through the PAAC as they reach out to homesick Filipinos and provide assistance in any way that they can.

Highlighting the well-known warmth and generosity of the Filipino people, the PAAC has essentially provided a home away from home for Filipinos distanced from their homeland.

Aside from Battad, season 2 of “Home Away from Home” put a spotlight on other renowned Filipinos such as world-class designer Michael Cinco and New York-based artist and philanthropist Lolita Savage.

GMA Pinoy TV has the distinction of being nominated alongside some of the most respected international content producers including the Food Network and the Cooking Channel.

Meanwhile, other major players in television programming such as HBO, BET Networks, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, ESPN, Nickelodeon, The National Geographic Channel, CNN and ABC, are also among the nominees in various categories of the 22nd NAMIC Vision Awards.

Over the years, GMA has consistently earned recognition from NAMIC for its programming content and quality services that have been instrumental in bringing Filipinos abroad closer to home.

In 2015, GMA added three more accolades to its extensive list of awards after winning at the NAMIC Excellence in Multicultural Marketing Awards, which lauds the best practices in ethnic-targeted marketing in the United States.
