Kapuso actress Glaiza de Castro on Saturday revealed that she sees a bit of herself in the character she plays, Sanggre Pirena, in the upcoming Encantadia reboot.

Pirena, the keeper of the gem of fire, is one of the show's protagonists. Previously played by Sunshine Dizon, Pirena plotted the downfall of her sister Amihan, who won the crown of Lirea, believing she would be a better ruler of the kingdom.

"Si Pirena kasi, medyo too hard on herself. May mga times na talagang sa sobrang pressure niya feeling niya di siya enough. Parang, 'kailangan galingan ko pa lalo,'" Glaiza explained after her first appearance as Pirena at the ToyCon 2016 at the Mall of Asia.

"At the same time nandoon yung frustration niya at saka anger niya sa ibang tao... may mga ganoong moments ako sometimes," she added.

However, unlike Pirena, Glaiza said her willfulness did not come at the expense of others. "Pero not to the point naman na nasasagasaan yung ibang tao para lang makuha yung gusto ko. Yun naman yung pinagkaiba namin ni Pirena," she explained.

Meanwhile, Kylie Padilla, who is set to portray wind-wielding Amihan, revealed that she originally wanted the role of Pirena.

"Nung una, nung sinabi sakin na Amihan, medyo kinabahan ako. Cause when I auditioned, I wanted the role of Pirena so yun ang inaral ko," Kylie said.

Played by Iza Calzado in the original series in 2005, Amihan is the keeper of the jewel of air. Although a skilled warrior, she has a a soft heart for her loved ones.

Kylie said she barely saw any resemblance between her and Amihan.

"Parehas kaming daddy's girl. Yun siguro ang pinaka-number one. Pero after all that, wala na. Sobrang layo namin ni Amihan," she said.

But when she got to know Amihan better as they started rehearsals and taping, Kylie said she eventually fell in love with her character.

"After ng first taping day tapos naikikilala ko na siya lalo, okay na ko. Love ko na siya," she said.

Despite their passion for their characters, the actresses said that they felt the pressure of people's expectations.

But Glaiza said that as the show started to shape up, she forgot about the pressure as the excitement of creating something new took over.

"Of course nung una talaga...di talaga mawawala [yung pressure]. Pero pag ginagawa na namin yung eksena nawawala na siya, Tipong nalolost ka na kasi nakapag-create ng panibagong mundo eh. Hindi mo na naiisip kung ano yung nakaraan," she said.

"Nagkaron ka ng inspirasyon kung saan siya galing, so familiar ka na sa project. Ang magagawa mo na lang is to create something new," she added. — DVM, GMA News
