Filmmaker Roni Bertubin passes away

Filipino filmmaker Roni Bertubin has passed away. He was 61 years old. 

His death was announced by the Film Academy of the Philippines in a social media post on Tuesday. No cause of death has been revealed. 

"The Film Academy of the Philippines mourns the passing of filmmaker and a steadfast leader of the community, Director Roni Bertubin," they wrote. 

They also described Bertubin as "a stalwart" of the Directors Guild of the Philippines (DGPI) who will forever be remembered for his calming presence on the set and the joyful light he brought to industry projects.

Born Ronald Bertubin, he was known for his films "Love Birds," "Sikil," and "Crying Ladies," among others.
