Inday Barretto, matriarch of the Barretto family, passes away

Estrella “Inday” Barretto, the matriarch of the Barretto family and the mother of actresses Claudine, Gretchen, and Marjorie, has passed away.

Inday’s passing was confirmed by her son, Joaquin Barretto, in a Facebook post on Thursday, where he shared a photo of a candle against a black background.

“Rest in peace, Mom. I love you,” Joaquin wrote.

In a Facebook post, Claudine shared a video featuring her precious memories with her late mom.

“Oh Mom. Estrella Castelo Barretto January 29, 2026,” Claudine wrote.

In another Facebook post, the actress posted a video showing her last moments with Inday in the hospital.

“Mommy, we're gonna be okay. I promise!” Claudine wrote in the caption.

Inday's cause of death has not been disclosed. However, it can be remembered that in September 2024, Claudine had asked for prayers for her mom after she was admitted to the hospital for lupus.

Inday has been in and out of the hospital from the last couple of months of 2025 to early this year, based on Joaquin's posts on social media. 

On January 7, Joaquin shared photos of Inday in the hospital, with the caption, “With Mom, still sick.”

Two weeks later, he shared another update about his mom, which showed her in a hospital bed.

“Mom,” Joaquin simply wrote with a prayer and heart emojis. 

In a January 27 update, Joaquin said that Inday will be transferred to the ICU. 

On Wednesday, January 28, Joaquin shared a photo of Inday lying in a hospital bed with him and Claudine by her side.

“Get well mom,” he said.

Inday was married to Miguel Barretto, who passed away in 2019.

Aside from Claudine, Marjorie, Gretchen, and Joaquin, Inday and Miguel have three other children: Michelle, Gia, and the late Mito.
