Vice Ganda reacts to Alvin Aragon's statement on Izzy Trazona, SexBomb Girls

Vice Ganda reacts to Alvin Aragon's statement on Izzy Trazona, SexBomb Girls

Vice Ganda reacted to recent statement of Alvin Aragon about his wife Izzy Trazona and her former girl group SexBomb Girls.

On "It's Showtime," Tuesday, the Unkabogable Star asked "Laro Laro Pick" contestant Joker about his faith.

"Nagdadasal ka ba? Nagbabasa ka ba ng Bibliya? Ilan ang utos ng Diyos?" Vice asked.

"10 po, Meme," the contestant replied.

The host then quipped, "Dati sampu, ngayon labing-isa na. 'Yung panglabing-isang utos ng Diyos ay 'Mag-resign ka sa SexBomb,' sabi nung asawa ni Izzy."

Alvin's statements

Alvin drew online backlash for his response to claims that he influenced Izzy to leave the group and skip its recent reunion concert.

"Sino ang nagpa-resign [kay Izzy] sa SexBomb? Ang Panginoon. Noong naging Christian si Izzy, pina-resign ng Lord. Sabi ni Lord kay Izzy, 'Come, follow me, I will make you fishers of men.' Nag-obey si Izzy do'n," he said in an interview with DWAR Abante Radyo.

He also said some things about Sofia, Izzy's transgender daughter.

"God will throw you to hell if you continue to do homosexuality. Mamuhay ka, and you don't want to believe in Jesus? I assure you that God will throw you to hell if you don't stop, repent, and believe in the gospel," he said about Sofia.

In the same interview, Alvin addressed comparisons made by netizens between him and Alex Castro, the husband of Sunshine Garcia, as well the husbands of the other SexBomb Girls.

Celebs weigh in

Shortly after Alvin's interview, other celebrities posted their opinions about religion and homosexuality but they did not mention anyone by name.

In a lengthy post on Threads, Rica Peralejo reflected on the importance of putting love before judgment when sharing your faith with others and opened up on her own experience.

"I totally understand the desire to share God with other people but when you are not careful in doing it, whereby you sound self-righteous and all, then do not expect the message to come through," she said.

"I know this btw cause I was just as blind before. I thought the most important thing to do was to shove it into people's minds how 'different' I am by choosing to 'stay pure' and all. Hoping they'd want to change, too. Yet all that did was earn praise from the believers while I totally put off the unbelievers," Peralejo added.

Actress Sue Ramirez also called out Alvin's statements, criticizing him for being judgmental.

"Na para bang kasalanan maging SexBomb? Mas kasalanan kaya maging homophobic at transphobic," Ramirez wrote in a comment on Instagram.

Social media influencer Hajie Alejandro, who is married to fellow content creator Lenie Aycardo, challenged the idea of controlling a partner under the guise of righteousness.

"Nakilala mong dancer 'yung asawa mo. Doon ka na-attract. Tapos ngayon bawal na? Ngayon kasalanan na? Na-seduce ka kaya gusto mo siya, tapos ngayon takot ka ma-sejuice ang iba kaya kinukulong mo?" Alejandro wrote in a Facebook post.

"Hindi 'yan righteousness. Insecurity 'yan. Asawa mo 'yan, hindi property. Partner 'yan, hindi dapat kontrolado," he added.

Actor and comedian IC Mendoza also aired his thoughts, urging people not to misuse faith for personal agendas.

"Stop weaponizing our Christian faith to hurt people and clout chase," Mendoza wrote. "I am a gay guy and a Christian. Anak at apo ako ng mga Pastor. I practically grew up in church and my relationship with God is built on prayer and His grace, and not on other people's approval."

"I did not choose between my faith and my identity, I can have both," Mendoza said.

Izzy stands by her faith

Amid the online backlash, Izzy stood firm in her faith.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the former SexBomb Girls member shared a photo of their family. She admitted that their current situation is not easy, but emphasized they get strength from their faith each day.

"It's not easy for the whole family… but we wake up every day by the strength that God gives," she wrote.

"By grace that we do not deserve, we continue to hold on to God’s promises and keep our eyes on what Jesus has done to save sinners like us." —MGP, GMA Integrated News
