Peter Cullen, voice of Transformers' Optimus Prime, dead at 85

Peter Cullen, the Canadian voice actor who brought to life Transformers leader Optimus Prime from the animated series in the 1980s all the way to the Michael Bay-produced live-action blockbusters of recent years, has died at 85.

According to US news site The Hollywood Reporter, Cullen's family said the beloved actor passed away at home in Los Angeles.

Cullen “passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family—and held in the hearts of his many friends and countless fans worldwide,” The Hollywood Reporter quoted his family as saying.

In a career spanning over 60 years in film, TV, and voice work in video games, Cullen provided the voice of other popular characters including Eeyore in several Winnie-the-Pooh productions and the Predator in the original Arnold Schwarzenegger film. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Children and Family Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California in 2023. — BM, GMA News
