Ed Sheeran, Robert Kraft donate $2M 'to fight humanitarian crisis' after Macklemore challenge

New England Patriots owner and billionaire Robert Kraft took to social media to reveal that he and Ed Sheeran have donated $2 million each to help aid the "humanitarian crisis."

In a statement released on the Gillette Stadium’s X account, Kraft said Ed contacted him and asked him to match his $2 million donation.

“I have dedicated much of my life to building bridges between all people,” Robert said. “I believe deeply that all lives are worth protecting.”

He also said that Ed’s request came before rapper Macklemore challenged him to match his own donation of $1 million.

“Ed now plans to reach out to other venue owners and our goal is to continue to work together to build bridges,” Kraft said.

Robert also addressed those who have spoken publicly in support of Palestine, emphasizing his history of supporting initiatives involving Palestinians and Israelis.

“I have supported efforts that create opportunity for Palestinians and have brought young Palestinians and Israelis together to build businesses, create jobs, and forge relationships,” he said.

Earlier, Macklemore pledged the entirety of his $1 million net earnings from Ed's tour to support Palestine.

"With everything that has happened over the last 48 hours, I want to bring the conversation back to where it belongs: to the Palestinian people who are still being killed, still living under military occupation, and still fighting for their freedom," the rapper said on Instagram.

"I will be donating the entire $1 million of my net earnings from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour to six organizations working directly to support the Palestinian people. And I invite Robert Kraft to match my donation. Whatever we disagree about, perhaps we can agree on this: Palestinian lives are worth protecting. A Palestinian life is no less valuable than any other life on this earth," he added.

Macklemore was dropped from Ed’s tour following his “Free Palestine” remarks. Robert rallied support among some stadium owners and told Ed they would not allow Macklemore to perform at their venues if he remained on the tour.

Meanwhile, Ed said dropping Macklemore from his tour was not his decision but that of the tour’s promoter. —Hermes Joy Tunac/JCB, GMA News
