Meryl Streep to voice Aslan in Greta Gerwig's 'Narnia'
Meryl Streep is officially the new Aslan!
The Hollywood actress, famous for movies like "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Mamma Mia," has been confirmed to be cast as the wise lion in Greta Gerwig's "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew."
In an interview with Empire, Gerwig said she wanted someone who was "profound but not pretentious, who had gravitas but not morose self-seriousness."
"I wanted someone who was older than 70, so there was a wisdom of experience, but who also had the capacity of fresh wonder, like a child. And also to be one of the greatest actors to ever do it. That list is not a long one," she added.
Reports about Streep joining "Narnia" first made the rounds in April.
Aslan was previously voiced by Liam Neeson.
"The Magician's Nephew" is based on the sixth book of C.S. Lewis' "Narnia" books. —JCB, GMA News
