Julia Stiles brings '10 Things I Hate About You' cast together for Heath Ledger tribute
Julia Stiles brought the magic of "10 Things I Hate About You" to the "Dancing with the Stars" stage.
During Dedication Night, the actress paid tribute to her leading man, the late actor Heath Ledger. Julia and her partner Ezra Sosa danced to the Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.”
In the iconic scene from the film, Heath’s character Patrick sang the song from the bleachers to Julia’s Kat while she was at soccer practice to win her over.
Julia also wore a blue dress and hairstyle similar to what she wore in “10 Things I Hate About You.”
Before the dance ended, a photo of Heath and Julia flashed onscreen. Julia left a flower on the stairs, and in a surprise move, cast members Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Andrew Keegan, Larisa Oleynik, Gabrielle Unio, and Susan May Pratt also joined Julia to look at the photo.
In an interview with Variety after the routine, Julia said every cast member said yes to appearing on the show.
“I said, if we had to have someone with us on stage representing Heath’s legacy or the film, I said it had to be the whole cast. I begged them, each and every one of them, and they all rallied. They really did,” Julia said.
She also reflected on the movie’s legacy.
“At 17 years old, I never would have thought that I’d be here at 45, celebrating my body, dancing on the show that I absolutely love and that fans are still interested in this movie and still moved and touched by this movie,” she said.
“10 Things I Hate About You” is a 1999 film that follows Kat, a beautiful and intelligent young woman. His younger brother, Cameron, can’t date until Kat has a boyfriend, so he pays the mysterious Patrick to charm her.
A musical is in the works, with pop star Carly Rae Jepsen working on the project.
