2 Pinoy films to be shown in 8th Dubai Intl. Film Fest

Two films from the Philippines will be featured at the 8th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) in the United Arab Emirates from December 7 to 14.

The indie films chosen are “Isda”, a film by Adolfo Borinaga Alix Jr, and “Crossfire” by Arnel Mardoquio.

These will be shown in the DIFF along with 169 other films from 55 other nations.

The DIFF is a venue for Arab filmmakers to showcase their talent, as well as to honor excellent cinema from countries in Asia and Africa. It aims to promote better cultural understanding through creative achievements in film.

The Philippine Consulate General in UAE welcomed the inclusion of the two films in this year's festival.

“The Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines welcomes the inclusion of ‘Isda (Fable of the Fish)’ and ‘Crossfire’ – two distinct Filipino films – in this year’s 8th Dubai International Film Festival,” it said on its website.

The consulate urged Filipinos living in Dubai and the North Emirates to watch the films.

Isda (Fable of the Fish)” is the story of Lina, who dreams of becoming a mother despite her advanced age and her husband Miguel’s lack of enthusiasm. She magically falls pregnant and gives birth to a fish. Strange and surreal moments put Lina and her marriage to the test.

The film stars Anita Linda, Bembol Roco, and Cherry Pie Picache.

Crossfire”, on the other hand, is an examination of lives caught in the crossfire of social and personal, physical and emotional strife.

Directed and produced by Arnel Mardoquio, “Crossfire” stars AC Macheca, Alexis Gacayan, Betya Villarojo, Celia Meru, Noemi Medina, Perry Dizon, Roda Gadrinab, and Roland Fortun.

Started in 2004, the DIFF is the leading film festival in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

“Independent and established talents from Asian and African countries with a burgeoning cinema culture are given prominent standing in the festival’s program and competition,” it said on its official website.

"Isda" will be shown on Saturday, December 10 at 9:30 p.m. and Monday, December 12, at 3 p.m.

“Crossfire” will be shown on Thursday, December 8, at 10:30 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 12, at noon.

Screenings will be at the Mall of the Emirates, 3rd Floor, Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. –CGL/KG, GMA News
