Arnel Pineda, Journey to donate $350k to help Yolanda relief efforts

Popular rock band "Journey," led by Filipino singer Arnel Pineda, is donating $350,000 to help victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

Rock music site Blabbermouth.net said Pineda announced he, the band and their team will donate the amount for emergency food relief.

"Don't stop believing, help is on the way for the people of the Philippines," the site quoted Pineda as saying.

The site said donations can be made to www.wfpusa.org/journey or by texting the word AID to 27722 to instantly donate $10.

"We are asking you to help me raise $10,000 to help support the WFP and its life saving food relief for the millions impacted by Typhoon Haiyan ... Don't stop believin' in the Philippines! Donate today," the band said on the WFP site.

Other members of the band's team include promoter Live Nation Entertainment; Creative Artists Agency (CAA); and manager John Baruck.

The initial donation will help the United Nations World Food Program(WFP) provide affected Filipinos with more than 1.4 million meals.

Blabbermouth.net said the Manila-based Pineda plans to meet with WFP executive director Ertharin Cousin at WFP Philippines headquarters in Manila.

Yolanda, which ravaged parts of Visayas and Southern Luzon, has caused more than 3,000 deaths.

The site said more than 170,000 people have received WFP rice rations so far.

It also quoted WFP USA board chair Hunter Biden as saying the WFP is honored to have Journey's support and Arnel Pineda's leadership "on this incredible donation for WFP's emergency relief in the Philippines."

"Their support is going to make a real difference for so many Filipino children and families in need," Biden added. — LBG/VC, GMA News
