Emmy award-winning actor and musician Darren Criss married his fiancee Mia Swier wearing a barong Tagalog as a tribute to his roots during a four-day wedding celebration that started on February 14 in New Orleans.

Filipino fashion designer Francis Libiran said in a post on Instagram that Darren honored his Filipino heritage by wearing the traditional barong Tagalog exclusively designed by Libiran himself during the extravagant wedding.

According to Vogue, Criss wore an off-white custom Giorgio Armani shawl-collared tuxedo trimmed with silk grosgrain for the wedding ceremony itself. He soon changed into the custom-designed barong Tagalog during the reception where he was able to dance with his Filipino mother, Cerina.

The intricately embroidered barong hand-woven from pure pineapple fabric was based on the famous tattoo patterns of the indigenous people of Cebu, said Vogue. —Kaela Malig/KG, GMA News
