Snooky recalls experiences with PHL cinema's great leading men

Snooky Serna recently celebrated her fifth decade in the entertainment industry, and the actor spoke with GMA 7 documentary show "Tunay na Buhay" about the working relationships she's had with some of her leading men.

Serna had worked with some of the most famous leading men in Philippine cinema, including Gabby Concepcion, Richard Gomez, and Albert Martinez.

The actor was one of Mother Lily Monteverde's original "Regal Babies," and during those years, she and Albert Martinez became a famous love team.

"Albert is such a gentleman, he has a good heart. Very ano siya, very considerate," Snooky recalled.

Before she was paired with Albert, Snooky's very first leading man was "Love You Two" star Gabby Concepcion, with whom she had a brotherly relationship with.

"Iba ang dynamics talaga kasi kami ni Gabby from the start. from the get-go para kaming naging magkapatid, parang naging brother-sister 'yung relationship namin. Para kaming si Pepe and Pilar, ganoon," Snooky said.

In Snooky's 1986 hit film "Blusang Itim," now a classic, she starred with actor and now politician Richard Gomez.

The actor said her character became so iconic that every time people would see her, they would ask about "Blusang Itim."

"That time, nakakatawa. Every time I would meet a person or magge-guest ako sa isang TV show, parang nag-stick na sa kanila 'yong blusang itim ko even up to this day. Sasabihin nila nasaan na 'yong blusang itim niyo buhay pa ba?"

Although, she had to change leading men from time to time, Snooky said it wasn't difficult because there were only a few of them in the industry back in those days.

"No. It was because konti lang kaming artista, so 'yong transition mas swabe," she said.

Recently, Snooky has been exploring different antagonist roles in GMA-7 Primetime TV series. She currently stars as Salida Calliste in "Sahaya."

Snooky will soon be starring in a film titled "In the Name of the Mother" directed by Joel Lamangan. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/DVM, GMA News
