The South Korean movie collected four awards including Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best International Feature Film.

In winning Best Director, Bong Joon Ho did not only become the first Asian from South Korea to win the honor, he also beat Hollywood veterans including Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino.

Upon receiving the Best Original Screenplay trophy, Bong said, "Writing a script is a lonely process. We never write to represent our countries. But this is very personal to South Korea. Thank you."

The dark comedy has been a favorite in the entire Oscar race, having won big in the Golden Globes earlier in the year.
