Oscars 2020: 10 cool things that happened


The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony has officially come to an end, and "Parasite" made history as the first foreign language film to win Best Picture.

The South Korean film swept up four major awards for the night, including Best Director, Best International Film and Best Original Screenplay.

Sure, Adam Driver didn't win an award for "Marriage Story" and "Avengers: Endgame" went home empty-handed in the visual effects department, but there were actually a lot of really cool things that happened at the Oscars this year.

1. The moment a South Korean won Best Director

When Bong Joon-Ho took the stage to receive his award, he said: "Thank you so much. When I was young and studying cinema, there was a saying that I carved deep into my heart, which is that 'the most personal is the most creative'."

The Korean director then pointed out that the quote was from "our great Martin Scorsese" whom he gestured to in the audience, prompting a tremendous amount of applause from the audience.

 

 

2. When Brad Pitt told Leonardo Dicaprio: 'I'll ride on your coattails anyday, man'

The 56-year-old won best supporting actor for "Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood, and thanked the cast and crew with a very sweet speech.

 

 

3. Idina Menzel performed Frozen 2's 'Into the Unknown' with 9 other 'Elsas'

The world-class song was interpreted in different languages by singers Takako Matsu from Japan, Gam Wichayanee from Thailand, Lisa Stokke from Norway, Anna Buturlina from Russia, Carmen Sarahi from Spain, and many others.

 

 

4. When Keanu Reeves brought his mom as a date

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the "John Wick" star, who was at the Oscars to present an award, walked the red carpet with his mother Patricia Taylor in tow.

 

 

5. Natalie Portman wore names of female directors on her cape

According to E!News, the actress recognized woman filmmakers Lulu Wang, Greta Gerwig, Lorene Scafaria, Marielle Heller and Mari Diop, and others in a most fashionable way.

 

 

6. When Spike Lee showed up in a purple and yellow suit to honor Kobe Bryant

The rapper even got a standing ovation after performing his Oscar-winning song from the film "8 Mile," the Hollywood Reporter said.

This is Laura Dern's first Oscar in her 40 years in the business. For her acceptance speech, the "Marriage Story" actress said: "Some say never meet your heroes, but I say, if you're really blessed, you get them as your parents." Aww!

 

 

10. Your multi-Grammy award winning girl Billie Eillish sang a cover of 'Yesterday' for the In Memoriam, and it was a tear-jerker
