Emma Watson voices support for trans people after J.K. Rowling's controversial tweets
Another "Harry Potter" star has voiced support for the transgender community following J.K. Rowling's controversial stand on gender identity.
Emma Watson took to Twitter to say: "Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are."

I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.

The 30-year-old actress, who played Hermoine Granger in film adaptation of Rowling's "Harry Potter" book series, broke her silence a week after Rowling came under fire for a series of tweets that were criticized as transphobic.
In her latest controversial tweet, Rowling had quoted an article and said, "'People who menstruate.' I'm sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?"
Amid the backlash, the 54-year-old author stood her ground and insisted that she has been "empathetic to trans people for decades."
Rowling's tweets has earlier prompted The Boy Who Lived himself, Daniel Radcliffe, to issue a powerful statement in support of transgender women.
"Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I,” Radcliffe wrote in a blog on The Trevor Project.
The actor had acknowledged that Rowling was "unquestionably responsible for the course his life has taken" but he felt compelled to say something.
He also apologized to fans of the books who were hurt by Rowling's comments.
