Nam Joo-hyuk plays a human charger on ‘The School Nurse Files,’ and he’s super excited for you to meet him

Nam Joo-hyuk has a very unusual role on “The School Nurse Files,” which is coming to Netflix this Friday, Sept. 25.

The action-packed fantasy series is about Anh Eun-young (Jung Yu-mi), a high school nurse who has a special ability to protect students from mysterious jelly monsters that only she can see.

Joo-hyuk plays Hong In-pyo, a timid Chinese characters teacher who also has the ability to replenish Eun-young’s powers with just a touch of his hand, making him essentially her “personal charger.”

During an online press conference on Thursday, Joo-hyuk said it felt very fulfilling to play a character who empowers somebody else.

“[Hong In-pyo] really didn’t know that much about himself, but then, after he realizes that he can actually be the power for the other person, he is in fact developing into another kind of person,” Joo-hyuk explained in Korean.

“This is a special kind of development of a character and I think it’s a really unique and special thing, that you can be a power for someone else,” he added.

Joo-Hyuk is also happy to present a character like In-pyo during “difficult times” amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Using your own special ability in being able to help others, that’s very fulfilling,” he said.

“And on a normal day, the character spends his day like any other person but when he gets to step up and be able to help someone, I think that’s where I’m able to feel the most satisfied playing the character,” he added.

Just then, as if she could read our minds, the moderator asked the actor if he could give reporters attending the virtual press event a “recharge.”

Joo-hyuk immediately flashed a warm smile, and reached a hand out to the screen. – RC, GMA News
