‘Arrested Development’ actress Jessica Walter dies at 80


Jessica Walter, who is known for playing Lucille Bluth in the sitcom “Arrested Development,” has passed away.

According to the New York Times, the Emmy Award-winning American actress died in her sleep Wednesday, March 24, 2021, in New York City.

She was 80 years old.

Walter’s daughter Brooke Bowman, who is a senior vice president at Fox Entertainment, shared the news in a statement saying: “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved mom Jessica.”

“A working actor for over six decades, her greatest pleasure was bringing joy to others through her storytelling both on screen and off,” she added.

Jessica Walter, who was born Jan. 31, 1941, in New York City, leaves behind a six-decade acting career on the big and small screens.

In 1975, she won an Emmy Award for her role as the titular female detective in the NBC mystery “Amy Prentiss.”

Walter is also known for “Arrested Development,” where she played the dysfunctional Bluth family’s hilariously iconic matriarch, Lucille. – Margaret Claire Layug/RC, GMA News
