The Academy issues statement following Will Smith, Chris Rock slapping incident

Following Will Smith and Chris Rock's slapping incident at the 94th Academy Awards on Monday, The Academy released an official statement on Twitter.

"The Academy does not condone violence of any form," the tweet read.

"Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world," they added.

The statement came hours after Will hit presenter Chris in the face after making a joke about his wife Jada Smith's shaved head appearance at Sunday's 94th Academy Awards.

In 2018, Jada bared a bald spot on her head after opening up about her struggles with Alopecia.

Just moments after the slapping incident, Will accepted his first Oscar trophy as he also apologized to the Academy in his tearful speech—JAB, GMA News.
