‘X Factor’ reveals Nicole Scherzinger formed One Direction in 2010: ‘They’re the cutest boy band ever’

It has been more than a decade since One Direction was formed but it really wasn’t clear how these five boys were chosen to complete the group — until now.

On the boy band’s 12th anniversary Saturday, The X Factor UK surprised Directioners with a never-before-seen video featuring what happened prior to the reveal.

In it, then judges Nicole Scherzinger, Simon Cowell, and Louis Walsh were seen deciding on which artists should be put together as a group ‘cause as individuals, they were “too talented to let go of.”

With Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson’s photos already on the table, Nicole already felt a bit giddy for what was to come. She also deemed Liam Payne and Zayn Malik a great fit.

“They’re the cutest boy band ever. I love it. The little girls are gonna love them,” she said. “I think they’ll be a really great in a boy band together.”

As of writing, the hashtag #12YearsOfOneDirection is among Philippine Twitter’s top trending topics. The video has also been showered with love for Nicole.

“Yet another reason why Nicole Scherzinger is a national treasure,” said a Page Six editor on Twitter.

“Nicole Scherzinger made One Direction,” a fan, meanwhile, wrote.

One Direction was formed in 2010 on the show. They have since made hit after hit such as “What Makes You Beautiful,” “Little Things,” “Perfect,” “Drag Me Down,” and “Night Changes.”

Though Harry, Louis, Niall, Liam, and Zayn are now pursuing their solo careers, they still pretty much stayed in touch to keep new memories coming.
