J. K. Rowling, 'Harry Potter' cast pay tribute to Hagrid actor Robbie Coltrane

The “Harry Potter” family is mourning the passing of actor Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid in the magical film franchise.

J. K. Rowling, author of the "Harry Potter" books, expressed her grief on Twitter, sharing a photo of her holding hands with Coltrane.

She said, “I'll never know anyone remotely like Robbie again. He was an incredible talent, a complete one off, and I was beyond fortunate to know him, work with him and laugh my head off with him. I send my love and deepest condolences to his family, above all his children.”

In a statement shared by Variety, “Harry Potter” lead star Daniel Radcliffe said that Coltrane “was one of the funniest people I’ve met and used to keep us laughing constantly as kids on the set.”

He added that one of his favorite memories would be from the third film, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”

“[We] were all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut and he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up. I feel incredibly lucky that I got to meet and work with him and very sad that he’s passed. He was an incredible actor and a lovely man,” Radcliffe said.

On her Instagram Stories, Emma Watson also honored the late actor.

“Robbie was like the most fun uncle I’ve ever had but also the most caring, and the most compassionate towards me as a child and an adult. His talent was so immense it made sense he played a giant—he could fill ANY space with his brilliance,” she said, sharing a photo of them together.

“Robbie, if I ever get to be so kind as you were to me on a film set I promise to do it in your name and memory. Know how much I adore and admire you," she added.

Emma also said that she’ll miss his sweetness, nicknames, warmth, laugh, and hugs.

“You made us a family. Know you were that to us,” she said. “There was no better Hagrid. You made it a joy to be Hermione.”

Tom Felton also took to Instagram to honor Coltrane. The Draco Malfoy actor said that his fondest memory would be from the first film “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.”

“I was 12. Robbie cared [and] looked after everyone around [him]. Effortlessly. And made them laugh. Effortlessly. He was a big friendly giant on screen but even more so [in] real life. Love you mate—thank you for everything,” he said.

Coltrane died at 72. No cause of death was given, but his agent Belinda Wright thanked the medical staff at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert in Scotland for their care.

He is survived by his sister Annie Rae, children Spencer and Alice, and their mother Rhona Gemmell. —JCB, GMA News
