Dwyane Wade's daughter Zaya granted legal name and gender change

Zaya Wade, the daughter of former NBA basketball player Dwyane Wade, has been granted a legal name and gender change.

According to a report on E! News, Dwyane petitioned the court on Zaya's behalf in August 2022.

Zaya, 15, came out as transgender in 2020. She is the biological daughter of Dwyane and ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches.

Siohvaughn asked the judge to deny the request until she was "at the age of majority."

Dwyane said, "While it certainly would have been preferable for Zaya's mother to be supportive of this important part of Zaya's journey, Zaya should not be forced to put her life on hold while she waits for Siohvaughn to acknowledge and accept her truth."

Dwyane is currently married to Gabrielle Union. They have a daughter named Kaavia together.

Dwyane has a son, Zaire, with ex Siohvaughn and son Xavier with another ex, Aja Metoyer.
