Lim Ji Yeon says she wants her 'The Glory' character to be hated by all fans

If you're hooked on the K-drama "The Glory," you may have a lot of thoughts and feelings about the villain Yeon Jin, who is played by Lim Ji Yeon. And Lim wouldn't have it any other way.

In a report on The Korean Herald, Lim shared her thoughts on her own character.

"I wanted Yeon-jin to be hated by all 'The Glory' fans. I hoped for her not to be tolerated nor understood, not even for a moment. Even I, who played Yeon Jin in the series, could not forgive her," she said.

"If I have gotten all the drama's fans to despise Yeon Jin, then it seems like my mission has been accomplished successfully," she added.

Lim said she thought her character is one-dimensional as a bully, but screenwriter Kim Eun Sook told her that this is not the case. Yeon Jin is kind in front of her husband and a pretty weather forecaster.

"She becomes a heartless villain who feels no remorse on her past deeds in front of the victims. This multi-dimensional side might have triggered the viewers' interest as well," she said.

With the success of "The Glory," Yeon Jin has become a popular meme in South Korea.

"The Glory" centers on Dong Eun, who is played by Song Hye Kyo, as she seeks revenge  after surviving abuse in high school. "The Glory" parts 1 and 2 are available on Netflix.
