Girls' Generation's Sunny leaves SM Entertainment

Sunny of the South Korean girl group Girls' Generation has left SM Entertainment.

On Instagram, Sunny shared a heartfelt letter announcing her departure from her longtime agency.

"Looking back, there are so many people I have been grateful to for the past 16 years," she wrote, as translated by Soompi

"My precious members who are like another me, my loving family, staff members who were always by our sides, and fans who gave us strength through their existences alone..."

The lead vocalist expressed her gratitude for SM Entertainment for helping her debut as Sunny when she was 19 years old.

"Every single day, I was as happy as I could be to be able to debut as Girls' Generation with the members and to meet SONE (Girls' Generation's official fan club)," she said.

The singer said that she is now trying to take courage to see herself in a "new environment from a different perspective."

"No matter what kind of day comes in the future, I will continue to move forward as the revitalizing Sunny," she said. "I will continue to be Sunny who shares good news going forward. Thank you."

Composed of Yoona, Taeyeon, Seohyun, Sooyoung, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sunny, Girls' Generation made their debut on August 5, 2007 through "Into The New World."

Last year, they revamped "Gee" in photo and video teasers for their "FOREVER 1" comeback.

They are popular for hits like "The Boys," "Lion Heart," "I Got A Boy," "Genie," and "Oh!"
