Robert Downey Jr. set to return to MCU as Doctor Doom for two 'Avengers' movies

Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a different and exciting character!

On Instagram, Marvel Studios announced that the American actor will play the role of the supervillain Dr. Victor von Doom for the movies "Avengers: Doomsday," which will be released in May 2026, and "Avengers: Secret Wars," debuting in May 2027.

Marvel also confirmed that the Russo brothers, the filmmakers behind four Marvel movies including "Endgame," will also return to direct "Avengers: Doomsday."

On Instagram, Downey shared a photo of him wearing a green suit and holding the mask of his new character.

"New mask, same task," he wrote.

These two films mark Downey's Marvel comeback in a different character after playing the iconic role of Tony Stark or Iron Man.

Earlier this year, Downey bagged his first-ever Oscar award after winning Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Oppenheimer."
