‘Wednesday’ star Emma Myers on speaking Filipino in series: ‘It’s such a hard language’
“Wednesday” star Emma Myers said she had a hard time speaking some Filipino lines in the series.
On Instagram, the hit franchise shared a video of Emma with her cast members Noah B. Taylor and Georgie Farmer reacting to her Filipino dialogue scene.
In the scene, Enid (Emma) can be seen approaching Bruno (Noah) who is heard speaking in Filipino to someone over the phone.
"Miss na kita. Miss ko na 'yung pagpasyal natin sa beach. Miss ko na lalo 'yang matamis na mga labi mo. Ibaba ko na 'to, mahal ko," said Bruno before hanging up.
Upon seeing Enid, he tells her he was just talking to his mom in the Philippines. Enid immediately sees right through the bluff.
"You and your mother are awfully close. 'Miss na kita. Miss ko na 'yung pagpasyal natin sa beach. Miss ko na lalo 'yang matamis na mga labi mo.' Or was that really your girlfriend back home who you failed to mention in an act of time-honored misogynistic deception?" she says.
"‘Wag mo na akong kausapin, manlolokong taksil," she adds
Upon watching the scene, Emma applauded herself for speaking the language.
“Wait! I did it,” she said, followed by some praise from her co-stars.
Emma then described Filipino as a “hard language” that she had to recite a couple of times.
“It’s such a hard language. The two of us were literally pacing outside of our trailers just reciting it. We both really tried, and that was probably the only good take they got of me saying it,” she shared.
“OK it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. I’ve been really nervous to watch the scene. I’m sweating right now,” Emma added.
Now on its second season, “Wednesday” stars Jenna Ortega as the titular role of Wednesday Adams. The horror-comedy series released the first part on August 6 and its second part on September 3.
The first season of "Wednesday" premiered on Netflix in 2022, following Wednesday Addams’ first year in Nevermore Academy and uses her psychic ability to solve a local murder that her father had been blamed for.
Meanwhile, Emma plays Enid Sinclair, a werewolf student at Nevermore Academy and the best friend of Wednesday Addams.
