Britney Spears calls out ex-husband Kevin Federline for 'constant gaslighting'

Britney Spears has spoken up against her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, as he gears up to release his memoir, "You Thought You Knew."

According to People Magazine, in the book, Kevin expressed his fear that Britney is “racing toward something irreversible."

The pop star took to X to respond.

“The constant gaslighting from [my] ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting. I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys,” Britney said.

The “Baby One More Time” hitmaker also opened up about her relationships with her and Kevin’s sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

She said, “Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life.”

Britney also said their sons “have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by [their] own father for me. They need to take responsibility for themselves.”

The singer added that she saw one son for 45 minutes, and the other son had four visits over the past five years.

“I have pride too. From now on I will let them know when I am available,” she said.

Britney also called out the “white lies in that book.”

“I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here,” she said. “I will always love them and if you really know me, you won’t pay attention to the tabloids of my mental health and drinking.”

“I am actually a pretty intelligent woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life the past five years. I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”

Britney and Kevin were married from 2004 to 2007.

Following Britney’s public breakdown, she was placed under the conservatorship of her father Jamie Spears. He controlled her money and personal life, even as she continued to perform high-profile concerts.

The conservatorship was dissolved by a Los Angeles court in 2021, after supporters started the “Free Britney” campaign.

In 2024, she went through a divorce from Sam Asghari, whom she married in 2022.

She also said she will never return to the music industry.
