Miss Universe President Raul Rocha charged with drugs, arms, and fuel trafficking – report
Miss Universe President Raul Rocha has allegedly been charged with drugs, arms, and fuel trafficking between Guatemala and Mexico, according to a report.
According to People Magazine, the charges were reported by Mexican newspaper Reforma.
The paper said Rocha is considered by Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FRG) to be an alleged leader of a criminal organization that allegedly smuggles fuel in boats through the Usumacinta River and then in trucks to Querétaro, Mexico.
The report also said that Yazmín Mayoral Marín, an agent in Mexico’s Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, requested an arrest warrant for Rocha on August 6. The organized crime charges were from his alleged involvement in drug and firearm trafficking.
The FRG raided several residences and allegedly obtained records of monetary contributions from Rocha to the criminal organization, one of which cost 2.1 million Mexican pesos.
Reforma obtained the arrest warrant, which claims Rocha’s criminal organization has “connections with politicians and authorities at all three levels of government to deliberately carry out their mission, which includes the sale of hydrocarbons, narcotics, and the trafficking and sale of large quantities of weapons of war.”
Rocha apparently approached FGR in October to work out a plea bargain and to share information for immunity from prosecution.
He has yet to respond to the fresh allegations.
This latest development on Rocha comes after the highly controversial 74th Miss Universe pageant, which was met pre-coronation walkouts, disappointment over the winner, a winning queen's resignation, and allegations of rigging.
Through it all, Philippine bet Ahtisa Manalo glided in grace and beauty to claim the 3rd runner-up award.
Rocha has since addressed the issues surrounding Miss Universe, but he also reportedly said he was “fed up” with the pageant and was looking to sell it.
