Ken Chu explains absence from upcoming F4 reunion concert
Ken Chu released a video statement addressing online rumors about why he is not part of the planned F4 reunion concert tour.
In an almost three-minute video he uploaded on Instagram, Ken said he decided to speak up because “the rumors circulating online recently have indeed become quite confusing.”
He explained that he believed no contract existed between him and the organizers, noting that previous discussions were only “expressing intentions” and that he had earlier “formally rejected their three demands.”
According to Ken, communication was later cut off. He only realized that he was excluded through the news "the same as everyone else."
“So to say, for this activity this time, I definitely won't participate. There's some regret, but I must make it clear to everyone here, hoping that everyone can understand this matter.”
He also reflected on F4’s history, saying the group was never defined by contracts.
“There actually never existed anything between us, who must be tied up with whom in order to do things and perform in such a situation. So for their three choices, actually, it means understanding because I think everyone now has their own choice about their own life, so we allow others to be others and allow oneself to be oneself,” he said.
He also wished the other members well and offered his blessings.
“I also hope their performance this time will go smoothly. Well, I also hope there will be a day when the intentions of all four of us can be consistent. Then we can truly bring everyone a great event. I hope everyone still looks forward to it, because I'm quite looking forward to it,” he said.
Ken additionally directed part of his message to a figure he referred to as “Sister Ai,” saying he did not understand the recent actions taken toward him.
“If you don't like me, or you think I'm not suitable for this performance, I think you could have told me directly. Then we can have a collaboration. Meaning you don't need to resort to smear tactics," he said cryptically.
"Actually, what you’re doing is different from what you came to tell me. You ran over to me and said you mean you hope to gather some beautiful memories from everyone’s youth. But you haven’t done it now either."
He said he remained open to communication and added, “I also hope you will kindly let it go. That is to say, since your purpose has been achieved now, I hope you will do a good job in this performance as well whether it’s a concert or not. I’ll just go back to doing what I should be doing.”
F4 was formed in 2001 following the success of the hit Taiwanese drama "Meteor Garden," where they starred with the late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu.
The series follows the life of Dong Shan Cai (Barbie) and her encounters with four wealthy boys, Dao Ming Si (Jerry Yan), Xi Men (Ken), Mei Zuo (Vanness Wu), and Hua Ze Lei (Vic Chou), at school.
As a boy band, they released three albums: "Meteor Rain" in 2001, "Fantasy 4ever" in 2002 and "Waiting For You" in 2007.
In July, the boys made a special appearance during Taiwanese rock band Mayday's 25th anniversary concert in Taiwan.
