Veteran South Korean actor Ahn Sung Ki passes away

Veteran South Korean actor Ahn Sung Ki has passed away. He was 74 years old.

His agency, Artist Company, announced the news that he died on January 5 at 9 a.m.

According to Soompi, the actor was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019, underwent treatment, and halted all activities. He was declared cured in 2020, but the cancer recurred during a recent follow-up monitoring.

In another report published on December 31, Artist Company said Ahn Sung Ki was in the hospital “after a sudden decline in his health and is currently receiving treatment under medical supervision.”

Artist Company said that Ahn Sung Ki had a "profound sense of duty to his craft and unwavering sincerity."

“His performances were always directed toward people and life itself, and through countless projects, he offered deep resonance and comfort across eras and generations.”

The agency added that Ahn Sung Ki also “cherished dignity and responsibility as a human being,” and was someone who consistently showed respect for senior and junior artists, as well as the behind-the-scenes teams.

“We pray for the repose of the deceased and extend our heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.”

Ahn Sung Ki started his career as a child actor in the 1957 film “The Twilight Train.” He has since appeared in more than 170 films. He is best known for his roles in “Mandala,” “Two Cops,” “Nowhere to Hide,” “The Divine Fury,” and “Hansan: Rising Dragon.”
