Colombian singer Yeison Jimenez dies in plane crash
Colombian música popular singer Yeison Jimenez was killed in a place crash on the way to a concert last weekend, authorities have reported. He was 34.
According to People Magazine, Jimenez was aboard a private aircraft which went down shortly after takeoff on January 10. The tragic incident took place in the Boyaca region, between the towns of Paipa and Duitama. He was with five others — members of his team, and the pilot.
In a statement, Jiménez’s team mourned the loss of the singer, describing him as "a source of hope for thousands" whose life story resonated deeply with fans.
"Today we say goodbye not only to an artist; we say goodbye to a son, a brother, a friend, a human being full of dreams and courage, who transformed his story into hope for thousands of people," the statement, published in Spanish, said.
The public tribute is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
"We thank, in a special way, the respect and understanding towards the private and family spaces of farewells, which are being carried out in an intimate manner, as requested by their loved ones," said the latest statement on Jimenez's Instagram page.
Jimenez was one of the leading figures in Colombia’s música popular genre, which Billboard describes as a fusion of ranchera and the string music known as carrilera in Colombia. In 2024, Jimenez sold out the Movistar Arena in Bogota, Colombia thrice, with more than 40,000 collective fans attending the shows, the music magazine added.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
