'Grey's Anatomy' actor Eric Dane has died — reports
Eric Dane, who plays Dr. Mark Sloan aka McSteamy on "Grey's Anatomy" has died on Thursday, February 19, People magazine reports.
He was 53.
People published a portion of his family's statement, saying, "With heavy hearts we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS."
According to the statement, he was surrounded by his wife Rebecca Gayheart and their daughters, Billie and Georgia, as well as by dear friends.
Dane announced his diagnosis of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, just 10 months ago, and quickly became an advocate for awareness and research.
He was born in San Francisco in 1972 and accidentally stumbled into acting. Before appearing on the 2nd season of "Grey's Anatomy," Dane appeared on TV shows like "Saved by the Bell," "The Wonder Years," and "Roseanne" to name a few.
In 2006, "Grey's Anatomy" introduced the guest character Mark Sloan, which quickly turned into a main role following the reaction of fans. Soon, Dane became a main fixture on the show, playing the character for six years before leaving in 2012.
Dane also starred in "Euphoria," and was credited in "Valentine's Day," and "Marley and Me." — LA, GMA Integrated News
