Four Filipinas bag The Actor Awards for 'The Pitt' and 'Sinners'

Four Filipinas bagged their first The Actor Awards (formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards) at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards held at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Isa Briones (who portrayed Dr. Trinity Santos), Amielynn Abellera (who portrayed nurse Perlah Alawi) and Kristin Vilanueva (who portrayed nurse Princess Dela Cruz) all won in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series as part of the outstanding cast of the medical drama series "The Pitt."

On the other hand, a preggy Fil-Am actress Hailee Steinfeld (who was not able to attend the event), won her Actor Award for being part of "Sinners," which won Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Hailee portrayed Mary in the Ryan Coogler film.

On Instagram, Briones thanked the SAG-AFTRA "for believing in our show and this incredible cast."

"What a special thing to celebrate all our hard work together," she added as she thanked her glam team and her father, the legendary theater actor Jon Jon Briones for being the best date.

Meanwhile, Villanueva said "I loved getting to play with this cast" as she thanked the award-giving body. "My lovely cast mates and friends, it's an honor to win this with you," she added in a separate Instagram Stories post.

Abellera for her part reposted snaps from her night of triumph and revelry.

In a previous West Hollywood press conference interview "The Pitt" season 2, Briones (who came from a family of actors – parents Jon Jon and Megan, and brother Teo) talked about having representation on television, especially in American mainstream TV medical drama.

"It’s really special," she began. "It’s insane that a lot of medical shows, as long as they’ve been around, have not featured Filipino healthcare workers when they make up such a huge population in this country. I was very emotional the first time we saw episode 1 because in the first five minutes, Tagalog is spoken by two Filipina nurses."

According to Briones, among her favorite scenes in Season 1 of the medical drama "was getting to work with Kristin and Amielynn" and getting "to do a little Tagalog with them."

Making things a little bit more special was the fact that an Asian woman, Valerie Chu, was the director. "It was like, oh, these four Asian women just here talking candidly. And she (Valerie) also was like, 'is there anything else you want to say? Like, anything else you want to ad-lib in here that would make sense?'"

“Kristin was like, I feel like what I would say is, ‘I didn’t know she (Isa’s Dr. Santos) is Filipino, she’s so white.’ And she was like, is that okay that I say that? I was like, yes, of course, because that’s how I look at myself. And that’s a version of my experience.”

Legendary actor and activist Harrison Ford was honored with the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award for career achievements and humanitarian accomplishments, while Catherine O'Hara posthumously won best female actor in a television comedy for "The Studio."
