RM on BTS having only 1 member fluent in English: 'We receive global love, so I am proud'
BTS had a laugh about RM's role as their English translator, a fact that has also amused ARMYs over the years.
During a Weverse livestream on Friday, RM brought up how he's the only one in the group who's fluent in English, which makes him the group's de facto spokesperson.
"I want to have banter, too!" RM complained. "I am the only one talking and translating."
The other members explained that they've been working on their English since they've garnered international fame, but even after all these years, they "don't improve."
Jungkook said, "No matter how we practice, it is hard to do it."
Jin laughed at RM because the BTS leader and rapper tends to get a "reality check" when "he laughs at the jokes but then he explains it to us afterwards."
Despite this, RM said he is proud of how far they've come as a fully Korean act.
"I am proud of this. We only have one member who can speak English but we receive global love, so I am proud," he said.
And all jokes and chaos aside, RM is more than happy to be back with his members.
Reflecting on the group getting back together after their hiatus and solo pursuits, RM called their "Arirang" comeback a "miracle."
"Having seven members in our 30s still moving together with the same goal, it is such great luck," he said.
BTS, composed of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, just made their highly anticipated return with the album "Arirang." It is their first album since 2022, the year they announced their hiatus due to their mandatory military service.
The group also released a music video for the lead track, "Swim," starring "Riverdale" actress Lili Reinhart.
On Saturday, BTS will stage a concert at the historic Gwanghwamun in Seoul. You can watch it live on Netflix at 7 p.m. (Philippine time).
On March 27, Netflix will release a documentary of the making of "Arirang."
In April, BTS will kick off their "Arirang" world tour, with the first two stops set to be broadcast in cinemas worldwide.
The Philippine stop is happening in March 2027.
