Taylor Swift sued for trademark infringement over ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ album

Taylor Swift is being sued for alleged trademark infringement over her album “The Life of a Showgirl,” released in October 2025.

According to multiple US reports, Maren Wade filed the complaint on March 30 against Swift, Universal Music Group, and Bravado International Group Merchandising Services Inc, claiming the album infringes on her trademark “Confessions of a Showgirl.”

Wade alleged that Swift’s album shares “the same structure, the same dominant phrase, and the same overall commercial impression” as her brand.

The lawsuit further claimed that Swift’s team attempted to trademark “The Life of a Showgirl,” but the application was denied by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

"Maren spent more than a decade building 'Confessions of a Showgirl.' She registered it. She earned it,” Wade’s lawyer said in a statement sent to ABC News.

"We have great respect for Swift's talent and success, but trademark law exists to ensure that creators at all levels can protect what they've built. That's what this case is about,” the lawyer added.

The lawsuit comes on the heels of Swift releasing a surprise music video for “Elizabeth Taylor,” one of the tracks from “The Life of a Showgirl.”

Wade is a singer and performer who previously appeared on “America’s Got Talent.” In 2014, she became a columnist for Las Vegas Weekly and later turned her “Confessions of a Showgirl” column into a one-woman comedic cabaret show. She has also released a podcast and a book under the same name.

She registered the “Confessions of a Showgirl” brand with the USPTO in 2015.
