Cha Eun Woo takes responsibility for tax evasion issue in new statement
Cha Eun Woo has issued a new statement regarding the tax evasion allegations against him.
On Instagram, the idol and actor started by apologizing "for the disappointment and confusion to many people, including fans, due to the recent tax controversy."
He added that he is careful in giving updates as he was in the process of various administrative processes.
"If there's a part I didn't take care of enough, the responsibility is also on me. I will not avoid saying 'I didn't know' or 'It was someone's decision' for any reason," Cha Eun Woo said in Korean, as translated into English.
He also shared more about his company and took responsibility for what happened.
"I founded my company in the process of preparing myself to continue my activities more stable at a time when I was going through various changes and confusion in my activities, but now looking back, there were parts of the process that I didn't take enough attention, and I think that the responsibility is on me, not my family or the company," Cha Eun Woo said.
He again apologized to the fans for disappointing them and promised to reflect on the issue.
"I will examine my activities in the future with a careful and strict standard, so that the same problem does not repeat again," he said.
"I will try harder and try harder to become Cha Eun Woo who is responsible for my choices and actions until the end."
Cha Eun Woo said he has already paid the taxes he owed.
The actor was reportedly facing an additional 20 billion won (approximately P800 million) tax assessment following a review by South Korea's National Tax Service involving a family-owned company founded by his mother.
Per Soompi, he was investigated in 2025 due to how his income was structured, with authorities reportedly viewing the family company as a "paper company."
Previously, Cha Eun Woo's agency, Fantagio, responded to the allegations, stating that no official or final notice has been issued.
In a previous statement, Cha Eun Woo also apologized and expressed remorse for the issue.
