The stars of “Voicemails for Isabelle,” Nick Robinson and Zoey Deutch, opened up about the people they would leave voicemails for if given the chance.

In an interview with GMA News journalist Lyn Ching, Deutch said she would choose to leave messages for her two late grandmothers, who she described as major influences in her life.

“I was very, very close to both of them,” she shared, explaining that she feels like she carries qualities from each grandmother.

Deutch said she often wishes she could update them about the milestones in her life, including her engagement and career.

“They would they would be very interested in different things. One grandma would be want to know about you know being engaged and that part of my life the personal side,” Deutch said.

“The other grandma would want to know she was an artist and she'd be like house what films are you doing were you inspired by and so I'd want to tell them what's going on in my life,” she added.

Robinson would likewise leave a voicemail for his grandparents, who are still alive, as a way of expressing feelings that are sometimes difficult to communicate in person.

“I would just like to express all the things that you don't normally get to express,” he said, adding that he would tell them how much he appreciates and loves them.

The actor also considered leaving a message for his younger self, offering advice and wisdom gained through experience.

“I’d say one of those two would be nice—to offer some wisdom,” Robinson said.

During the interview, the pair also looked back on meaningful gestures they have shared with loved ones.

Robinson recalled a memorable birthday surprise during the COVID-19 pandemic, when someone compiled video messages from various people in his life into a single birthday tribute.

“That was really sweet,” he said. Years later, he returned the gesture.

Deutch, on the other hand, shared a thoughtful gift she prepared for her fiancé Jimmy Tatro’s 30th birthday.

She commissioned a custom-painted jacket featuring his favorite things, childhood memories, family references, and even basketball legend Kobe Bryant.

“It’s like covered, painted, the whole thing,” she said, adding that she also planned an entire day centered around her fiancé’s favorite activities.

While discussing sweet gestures she has received, Deutch joked that she is “totally spoiled,” praising Tatro for regularly doing thoughtful things for her.

“Voicemails for Isabelle” follows Jill (Deutch), a San Francisco dessert chef who leaves voicemails for her late sister, unaware the number now belongs to Wes (Robinson), who is charmed by updates about her chaotic life.
