Fans express mixed reactions as New York permit points to Taylor Swift wedding on July 3

LOS ANGELES — Fans have expressed mixed reactions following reports that Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce may be set to marry in July.

A permit was filed with New York City to close the streets around Madison Square Garden from July 2 to midday July 4 for an event on July 3, the New York Times said, citing three people with knowledge of the matter.

Several members of Kelce's football team, the Kansas City Chiefs, have booked hotel rooms for dates around July 3 at the Marriott Marquis hotel in Times Square, the paper said.

The Times said a fourth person, a city official who was briefed on the preparations, said Madison Square Garden was planning to host the wedding festivities on July 3.

Winick Productions, an event planning company, filed an application with the city’s Street Activity Permit Office in early June, the newspaper said. The company requested authorization to set up a tent or canopy outside the arena for the event, which it said would include 500 to 999 attendees, according to the report.

Following the report, social media users shared a range of reactions, with many expressing excitement over the possibility of the celebrity couple tying the knot.

On X, formerly Twitter, one fan referenced Taylor’s song “Fearless,” writing, "Taylor Swift on her wedding day can definitely say," before sharing the lyrics, "And I don't know why, but with you I'd dance in a storm in my best dress, fearless."

Other netizens also weighed in on Facebook.

"Taylor performing ‘Love Story’ and showing off her ring," one user commented.

"Ooooooor she's giving a concert as part of a pre-wedding event. Imagine the guest list," another wrote.

Meanwhile, some social media users raised concerns about the planned street closures in one of New York City's busiest commercial districts.

"New York is too busy of a city to be closing down streets for a wedding," one user commented.

Previously, Page Six reported the couple will exchange vows at the iconic arena, which serves as the home of the NBA's New York Knicks and the NHL's New York Rangers. Madison Square Garden has also hosted several of Taylor's concerts throughout her career.

The report added that the wedding is expected to take place in the first week of July.
