Fil-Am trans beauty queen Kataluna Enriquez recovering after 'near-death' car accident
Filipino-American transgender beauty queen Kataluna Enriquez is recovering after surviving a car accident that left her hospitalized for two weeks.
On Instagram, the Miss Nevada USA 2021 titleholder shared an update, reflecting on how the experience changed her outlook on life as she continues her recovery.
“Ever since I was young I’ve loved performing. For years, I’ve transformed my life to fulfill my dreams and passion with dance, and amplifying causes with my voice. I was able to step on huge stages like MIQ, MISS USA, Improvs, Piranhas/Gipsy, and many more,” Kataluna said.
She also opened up about the emotional toll of the accident and her hospitalization.
“For the 2 weeks I was in the hospital, I’ve had many nights where I cried thinking I could no longer be the same person. But truthfully, surviving a near-death experience has also allowed me to embrace that I am no longer the same person. I am now one with a deeper relationship with myself and a different understanding of gratitude,” she said.
While she did not disclose details of the crash, Kataluna extended her prayers to those who were affected by the tragedy.
“I wish prayers to family and people who’s lives were lost/affected in this tragedy,” she said.
As she focuses on healing, Kataluna said she is also looking forward to returning to her creative pursuits.
A GoFundMe page has also been launched to help cover Kataluna’s medical expenses and support her recovery following the accident.
Kataluna made history in 2021 as the first openly transgender woman to compete in the Miss USA pageant after winning the Miss Nevada USA crown.
