Sam Neill, one of New Zealand’s most celebrated actors, passed away in Sydney, Australia, on Monday at 78.
Best known for the "Jurassic Park" film franchise, Neill built an acting career that spanned nearly five decades.

'The Hunt for Red October' (1990)
In "The Hunt for Red October," Neill played Captain Vasili Borodin, the first officer of the Soviet nuclear submarine Red October and the right-hand man of Captain Marko Ramius (Sean Connery).
The film is an adaptation of Tom Clancy's bestselling novel of the same name published in 1984.
'Jurassic Park' (1993)
Neill was best known for portraying paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant in the "Jurassic Park" film franchise, a role he reprised several times.
Created by Michael Crichton, "Jurassic Park" is a film franchise centered on a theme park populated by cloned dinosaurs.
'The Piano' (1993)
In "The Piano," Neill starred as Alisdair Stewart, a deeply troubled husband trying to navigate an unhappy marriage.
The Oscar-winning film follows Ada (Holly Hunter), a mute Scottish woman who arrives in New Zealand for an arranged marriage.
'Event Horizon' (1997)
Neill portrayed physicist Dr. William Weir in the science fiction horror film “Event Horizon,” who designed the experimental spacecraft of the same name.
The film follows the Event Horizon spacecraft that disappears during a test mission, only to return seven years later.
'Peaky Blinders' (2013-2014)
During the first two seasons of "Peaky Blinders," Neill starred as Chief Inspector Chester Campbell, a relentless detective pursuing the Shelby family.
