Yuri leaves SM Entertainment after 19 years, to remain with Girls' Generation

Girls’ Generation member Kwon Yuri is officially parting ways with SM Entertainment after 19 years.

The agency announced on Weverse, Friday, that it had mutually agreed with Yuri to conclude her exclusive contract on August 31 following extensive discussions.

SM Entertainment thanked fans for their unwavering support for the singer-actress and reflected on her nearly two-decade journey with the company.

“It has been a precious time for SM Entertainment to accompany Kwon Yuri throughout her journey—from her debut with Girls' Generation in 2007, leading the global K-pop craze and growing into an iconic group, to shining as an actress,” the statement said.

The agency also praised her growth as an actress and recognized her achievements as an "all-rounder artist" through music, acting, variety shows, and hosting.

Despite leaving the agency, Yuri will continue promoting as a member of Girls' Generation.

"We will cheer for Kwon Yuri as she embarks on this new chapter of her journey," the company said.

Yuri is the latest Girls' Generation member to part ways with SM Entertainment while remaining part of the group.

Composed of Yoona, Taeyeon, Seohyun, Sooyoung, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sunny, Girls’ Generation made their debut in August 2007 with “Into The New World.”
